All of us, except the poor vegetarian who was downwind of our food, ordered the steak or scallops on the stone. This was a lot of fun. It was a perfect night to sit outside and we did - with an almost full moon, and great weather. The food quality is great, and the stone is awesome. The service is friendly, and the owner came out and chatted with us to make sure we enjoyed it - and even asked for recommendations. The only thing I would recommend - either put the steak on the stone once it gets outside, or serve it immediately after putting it on the stone. By the time the steak came to us (we were a party of 8) the one side was burnt. Still, I plan on coming back

Disappointing, one of the few restaurants like this around here. It's very cute and the food is decent but seems somewhat overpriced. The stone grill seemed like a novelty and the portions were very small. All said and done I would much rather make the drive up to Media for one of the countless sit-downs up there that are a similar experience with more value. If you have not been before it's worth checking out but we do not plan on coming back.

Went here on Halloween night for dinner in a group of 7. The food was delicious, our server was very attentive and we all were happy with our drinks. We sat in the red room which was very cozy but smelled a little musty when we first walked in but that went away after a few minutes. The only downside is they have a tiny parking lot that is not obvious ( there are house apartments next to it). We first parked on Hinkley Ave and thought we were safe from the meter maids but apparently on Saturday nights they check until 9 p.m. So see if the lot has something open or have coins ready.

This is the place to go if you want quality food. From the juicy fresh cut steaks to the freshest seafood everything is a good proportion and a great quality. Biggest and most delicious scallops I've ever had. Crab cakes are the best, lumpy with plenty of crab meat and light on the filling, makes them the best around.Staff is friendly and the deck is great for dining on nice days. Highly recommended

One of the best family owned restaurants on the east coast. Every time I'm in the Philadelphia area I make it to Ridley park Thanks for the meal

I don't know what happened here. Either this place has gotten worse since last year, or my eyes have been opened. Upon entering this past weekend, a wicked smell fluttered into our noses. It smelled like fish and steak mixed with poop. It was disgusting. My mother sniffed out the culprit (a scented candle next to the hostess stand) and promptly took it upon herself to snuff it out. What restaurant would light a scented candle? People should be smelling your food, not some vanilla cookie candle that smelled like it was purchased from the dollar store. Anyway, after we were seated we had a chance to take in the decor. I don't know if we were seated in a place where we couldn't really observe it before, but we all agreed that this is where old people come to die. It wasn't themed, it wasn't cute, it was...scary and dirty and gross. All that aside, the food last time we were here was good, so we still had high hopes for that. However, my "Athens chicken" looked like a pile of vomit and came with unseasoned vegetables and "mashed" potatoes that consisted of one giant potato covered in some mashed potato. Those were also unseasoned. I swear, the meal reminded me of something you'd get at a hospital cafeteria. My husband's meal was no better than mine. I almost forgot - our French onion soups came out covered in CHEDDAR cheese. Excuse me? Cheddar? That's like, a major violation of the French onion soup rules. Who puts cheddar cheese on French onion soup? My mother's meal, a plate of shrimp scampi (like last time), was totally fine. Not the best, not the worst. Totally edible. My theory on this place is that their pasta is good. Beyond that, stay away. Last year we all got pasta and we all left content. Another negative about this place was that the waitress was clueless. Like, didn't know what beers were on draft, didn't know what types of white wine they had. The whole experience was just bad, and I hated shelling over $120 for a meal that none of us really enjoyed.

The Gas Light was recommended to us as the best restaurant in Ridley. While that might not be a terribly high honor, either way, not sure Gas Light fits the bill. The atmosphere inside is nice enough. It's a little different, like being in a nice old house with a bar in it. It's so dark from the outside that we couldn't even tell it was open until we tried the door. Parking in the area is spotty, because of the train station, but you can find something. Service was mediocre. We were seated quickly enough, but after that it went downhill. Our server came around rarely, slowly, and unpleasantly. I asked for a recommendation about the menu, she kinda shrugged, pointed at one of my options, and rolled her eyes afterwards. Not that impressed there. The food itself, pretty good, by Ridley standards. It's a shame the service as so lacking, otherwise I'm sure I would have liked The Gas Light a lot more, but in the end, it just didn't meet the standard.

Tonight I finally made it to The Gas Light. Sat at the bar and experienced great service from the bartender. Had French onion soup - meh. Had Caesar salad - way over dressed and rye bread croutons? Seriously? The filet was extremely disappointing for a place that's supposed to be a great steakhouse. Scalloped potatoes were tasty. Corn out of a can. Disappointed. Expected more.

Don't let my opinion steer you away from this place. Everybody is entitled to bad day. But our visit here was horrible. It's a shame because me & my wife just moved to Ridley Park and really wanted to love this place. Love the old decor & neighborhood/homey feel the place has to it. But we received shitty service and an overpriced menu for an average meal. Bummed out but we won't be returning here.

First time. Had the Onion Soup very good! The server was very nice. Parking is a little tough but over all I highly recommend!

I had heard good things about this place from locals so I figured it would be a nice close place to take my mom for her birthday dinner. A few of us arrived early for our reservation so we found seats at the bar and got a drink while we waited for the rest of our party. Our bartender was nice and I think i would enjoy drinks here over coming for dinner. The table ordered the fried cheese, the crab dip, and the clams casino for appetizers. The clams were teeny tiny and only came with 6, which didnt seem like much on the large plate it sat on, especially for $9. The mozzarella sticks were the better choice, not adventurous, but a solid choice The crab dip was the best appetizer out of the threeFor dinner I ordered the lobster ravioli and my fiance ordered the penna a la vodka. The 5 ravioli were covered in a white bland sauce with a few shrimp on the side. Overall, it didn't have much flavor, was a bit fishy tasting, and for $20 it seemed expensive for what you got. My fiancé's pasta was better, but for $14 for just pasta and sauce, it seems steep for the area. The service was good and the restaurant has a cool old look to it, but for dishes that taste to the same caliber as the erin pub, it doesn't seem worth the higher price tag.

I SO want this place to do well, but their food is just not consistent with the prices. They really need to offer lunch, as well. I hope they get better. Also, don't sit next to the bar area. It's very loud.

First visit here for dinner. I couldn't believe it when the waiter informed us that they were out of house salad! Only offering Ceasar salad. Oh--and out of drink straws too. Really?!? One would think you would run to Acme and buy 8 or 10 heads of lettuce. Wow! Not a good first impression. We had the French onion soup which was very good and had a French bread sized slice of toast coated in a good amount of cheese. I had a Ceasar salad which was good and acceptable. I've had better. I've had worse. Our entrees were: the classic cheeseburger, the scallops and the lobster ravioli. The scallops were tasty and tender. Served with roasted potatoes and carrots. My ravioli was very good with a cream sauce and five tasty shrimp. The burger wasn't all that great. The meat was dry and only 1/4 of it was eaten. As the waiter took away the plate...he never even asked if it was okay or was there a problem. All in all...not bad but not good enough that I'd bother to return.

Simply AMAZING food. I go here often and I have never been let down. This place always amazes me and leaves me in a food coma. I usually get the stone grill filet and it's so good. The staff is so friendly, it is a cool quiet place. Bar inside as well. So good!!

Heard a lot of great things about this place and it did not live up to the hype. Very outdated dining room which some find unique but I did not. I first order clam casino which was the worst excuse of clam casino i've ever seen. The clams were small and literally just had a few sprinkles of pepper bread and maybe scallions? Very disappointed by that. Ordered a filet and ordered med rare and when it got to my table it was more like medium well. I could have sent it back but our waitress, who was nice but was dressed like she just out of a halfway house looked like she was waiting on most of the tables that night so I did nit want to bother her. I will try it again because of the good reputation this place has but was not impresses my first time!

I have eaten here about 4 or 5 times while on business trips to Philly and never had a bad meal. Service is great, the atmosphere is nice and the beer is good. Tonight I got the Baked Stuffed Scallops and the were great. I highly recommend!

I used to live within walking distance of this place. It's probably one of, if not, the only "fine dining" restaurants in the area. Like if you are in the mood to take your significant other out to a nice meal and don't feel like driving to Media or, gasp, Philadelphia the Gas Light will fill the void. That is, unless you like freshly prepared food. Any place that serves me canned vegetables pretty much gets one star. The only reason I've bumped it to two is that the prime rib is passable, the decor representative of a by-gone era, and I have some nostalgic moments when I think of the place. In the end, though, I'd never recommend it to anyone.

My wife is a terrific chef. When I want over the top food...I go home. But I have to say that the Gas Light is a pleasant stop. No...it's not food for "foodies", but a comfortable place to go when you just don't feel like cooking, or you know you can get a really great meal for a really great price, and, the owners and staff are great. If you go there twice and you are the least be friendly, you become family. My wife and her friend from work had "girls' night out" on Friday, and I met with some friends there last evening. We are never disappointed! I am a vegan...and that seems to be tough at the best of restaurants. Chefs who balk at having to leave the printed menu, to my mind, aren't really chefs, their recipe followers. At the Gas Light, they see me coming, and the vegetables get going.

Worth four. My wonderful other half and I came over unannounced and left fully satisfied. No, it's not Le Bec Fin. But the friendly staff, obsequious but not pedantic; knowledgeable but not pretentious, made the day. The food was outstanding. We each had the stone grill dinner that came with a salad and vegetable. Service was both friendly and knowledgeable. The food was outstanding. A novelty to have the stone grill. And the 1920 decor was quaint and lent the place an air of mystery. I was impressed.

I love love love this restaurant and the "old world" charm. It's decor is romantic...reminds me of that "One if by land two if by sea" look. We had the shrimp lejon, neptini cocktail and crab dip as appetizers...Crab dip was fantastic...nice and buttery...well worth it! Had the stuffed broiled scallops as an entree...loved every bit! I can't wait to try this place again. : )

I so wanted to like this place, because it had curb appeal!!! However when you walk in it smelled like mop water..... I got the mixed seafood platter and the fish was cooked ok, but it was bland and soaking in a watery bath on the plate. My date got the hot stone ribeye which seemed to be a tad better choice. Oh, and my salad had weird wilted iceberg lettuce... And to boot the on tap beer had a funky taste to it, kind of like the lines had never been cleaned....

set in a heritage period ... and appears to straddle to building with a common atrium ... dark wood and quiet ambiance ... from the top .... key lime martini w/o whip cream is a great starter ... Service is consistent and friendly ... long time members of the community dinners are full figured and set for a hearty appetite ... Ribeye and seafood fettuccine were favorites ....

I had such high expectations of this quaint little place in Ridley Park. Rustic charm that is very inviting. I give at 5 starts for that. Their service is 4 stars. Parking is very limited and we parked on the street and paid a meter. Ugh... Now food - My sister ordered the crab dip, and a seafood combination dinner. Server asked her what veggie she wanted, my sister asked what kind of corn it was - and the server said 'canned'. We looked at each other and were shocked. He then quickly said, oh no, it's frozen corn. She ordered the corn, and yes it was canned corn. My entree was the salmon with crab, mashed potatoes and I ordered the carrots. You just can tell when food is not fresh, and I was very disappointed. My salmon tasted 'old', the crab was canned, as well as the carrots. REALLY? A can of corn or carrots costs maybe .79cents? I left most of my food on the plate, I just couldn't eat it. I ponied up $75 for food that was definitely not fresh - this could e an awesome place, but until they start using fresh veggies and 'meat' seafood. I can't see it being a place I would go back to.

Hadn't eaten here in years, came last week to try. Still a cute & cozy place, with all the local memorabilia. But not impressed otherwise. The food was mediocre and way overpriced for what it was. The stone grilled steak was good, but the sides were bland and boring. I can open cans or pop something in the microwave at home, thank you. Wait staff was ok. Better years ago when it was a nice neighborhood bar and didn't aspire to be a 'fine dining' establishment.

I really wanted to like this place as a nice local sit down restaraunt but the price they charge for the food they have is not right. I got a filet w shrimp. Shrimp had absolutely Zero flavor. Vegetables seemed to not be fresh and the steak also lacked flavor. Wait staff lacked any decorum. Wine list is very limited. It feels like the folks who opened it didnt hire an actual chef and decided to cook themselves. Which is fine, but they need to learn to get some better ingredients if they are going to charge the prices they do and how to properly season steak, poultry and fish. Lastly, the menu itself was so unprofessional. Some words bolded randomly. Spacing all over the place. It sounds like I'm nitpicking, but for 25 dollars a plate, how about you put together a menu that is formatted professionally? It really turned me off. I will not be back and that's a shame since I live next door.

My friends & I have gone to the Gas Light to celebrate many occ for many years, the staff have always been uber-friendly, the apps appetizing! Dinner specials, during the week are great. Enjoy the décor as well. Their cocktails are delish! We've always had good steaks & seafood! Guess the only thing I'd have to add is, it gets quiet loud while we're there! Russ, Sue & staff are good people! I travel quite a bit - but I really enjoy returning to the Gas Light year after year:)

This restaurant has been here forever. We never went for dinner until they got the stonegrill. Now we visit with my mom almost anytime I come home. The drinks are fairly priced, lots of regulars, and the wait staff is pretty good. Definitely recommend anything on the stonegrill. The steaks are great and so is the seafood. Rest of the menu is ok, normal american food.

Tired after a four hour drive up I-95 and ready for a great meal. This place was recomended by the hotel guest clerk and it sounded good. They serve a unique steak on a 700 degree stone block - it comes to the table raw on the stone and cooks sizzling right before your eyes, amazing taste and sizzles and stays hot right to the last bite. The sides are the usual, but an 8 oz thick filet, a choice of sauces, choice of two sides, including a nice salad, and bread if you want it goes for $24 - great deal. The atmosphere is a bit dated - I ate in the bar because the place was packed on a Tuesday night and I had to wait 1/2 hour - but well worth it. Friendly, efficient staff. This place is about a mile off of I-95 in Ridley Park, near Philadelphia; easy in, easy out. Highly recommend.

The stone grilled steak was very good (even though I had to cook it myself) and my sister liked her seafood pasta. Loved the atmosphere - quiet, dark and intimate. Service was good and no reservation needed on a Friday before 6pm. I'd go back if I was in the area again. Good brownie sundae for dessert!

Wanted to try this place, so we decided to take a chance on Sat night and try it. We didnt have a reservation, but they are recommended. This place is small and parking is limited. We went early and had no problem getting a great table. We ordered the steak stone grill cooking which comes to you sizzling on a hot stone. It also comes with pot, veg. I ordered the stuffed salmon which came with shrimp, crab cake & a nice dill sauce. The salmon was ok, I have had better. The potato was not cooked enough for me and the corn was like canned corn. Still, the service was great which means a lot and the food good enough for us to want to go back and try another one of the entrees. It's a little pricey, but, not that bad, our bill was $60 and included dessert, coffee. Not very many choices in the area and my friend loved the stone grill cooking experience. For dessert, warm apple pie with ice cream just ok, didn't care for their coffee. 3 stars

Nice local restaurant and nice environment. My wife and I have gone there for years. I usually get the stuffed salmon. It's a great dish. Last time I ate there it didn't taste as good as usual but the manager has since told me that they've changed vendors so I'll have to try it out again. They have great service, a nice bar, good bread and a nice patio out back which is nice in the summer. It's a good local place.

This place is not horrible, not good, just ok. Service is good but the food is nothing special. The decor is nice nothing fancy or trendy I'd call it a throwback, old school place. That being said I would go back to give it another try despite the poor rating.

  • Serena O.

Always decent food, but it seems that the prices have been creeping up over the years....$40 for two sandwiches an a cup of soup is a little high for the area, but the people are always nice and they have a patio you can sit on. Entrees are a better value, around $20 for most things. Get the Seafood Baltimore, feel guilty later, but it's worth it

This place is long past its prime. The decor, which is timeless, really, looking very much like some old hotel/restaurants on the California/Nevada Gold Rush border is out of place, but not at all off-putting. The food and service is another story. We asked for one of the 3 high-tops in the bar area. We were shown to one but another waitress said it was reserved for 7:30 (this was at 5:30), so we were shown to another which was loaded with dirty dishes that hadn't been cleared yet. OK, not that big of a deal, but the table that was supposed to be reserved for 7:30 was filled by 6:00 pm with other diners. We had the following: Seafood Bisque; Stone Grill Dinner with Filet Mignon, Scallop, and Shrimp; Tilapia, and one diner had baked potato and the other had mashed potatoes, which were the choices offered us. Later, we noticed the next table had french fries with their Stone Grill, which was not offered to us. Choice of veggies was carrots or zucchini. Really??? Those are your Friday night, prime-time dining vegetables? We were offered bread, which was really a half of an italian long roll, sliced into 4 thin slices. The seafood bisque contained what seemed like leftover pieces of either the salmon or tuna on the menu as well as something putrid that tasted like maybe canned crabmeat (not the fresh-caught canned, but something processed). I'm not sure, I never really had crabmeat from a can, but whatever this was, what it was NOT was fresh! The filet was a full 8 ounces, but tasteless, absolutely no beefy taste at all. For an additional $6, they offer a shrimp and scallop mix, which is 3 barely-medium shrimp, split but not cleaned, and one decent sized scallop. An order of sauteed onion was $2.99. It was maybe equivalent to one medium sized onion, tops. $2.99???? It made the $6 seafood addition seem like a bargain. I don't know when stone grilling was introduced there, but everything stuck to the stone. I've done Hibachi cooking before and the food doesn't stick on a hibachi. I had to literally scrape the meat and the scallop from the stone, which of course left he tasty crust on the stone, not the food. Dessert was an unremarkable cheesecake. So, 2 dinners, 2 soups, 2 beers each and 1 after dinner cordial each with 1 cheesecake was $110.00. The Gas Light food does not make it seem worth while to spend that much to dine there. Our server was the best part of the meal. My advice would be to eat there if you live in the neighborhood, but if you have to drive to get there, don't! It's just not worth it on any level whatsoever. By the way, we dine out a minimum of twice a week, so we have had plenty of dining experience in the area.

Service & food were both amazing. Lauren, our server was funny, atentative and gave some great recos.. I had the Chickn Marsala and French onion soup, both incredible. Came here because of yelp and when I'm back in the Philly area, I'll def be coming back.

We tried the stone grille. They served a raw price of filet to us on a 700 degree lava stone. We were able to cook the meat to perfection right at our table. It was delicious. I usually never finish a steak - ate the whole thing. I recommend this place to everyone. You can get strip steak, shrimp, tuna, scallops all on the stone grill.

Dined at the Gas Light this evening, and boy was it cozy, especially since the wind chill was in the single digits! We sat along the window in a cozy red room with crystal chandeliers. I would say the overall atmosphere is very calm and welcoming. The restaurant is right across from the Ridley SEPTA R2 station, so you can watch the trains goes by as you enjoy your meal. Our server Erik was extremely attentive and friendly. I ordered the seafood bisque, which was fresh and a had a light fish taste, it was very good. Our entrees came with fresh garden salads, simple enough. The bread they offer at the table was a little on the dry side. For my entree I ordered one of their specials. I can't remember the name but it was a penne pasta tossed with crab, shrimp, and veggies in a creamy sauce (some liqueur mixed in with it as well, but the name of that escapes me as well). It was a generous portion, the pasta was cooked perfectly, and the sauce had lots of flavor, not bland at all. No dessert since the pasta was so filling Overall a great experience, especially to find something so unique and of a higher caliber than most restaurants around Ridley Park and surrounding boroughs. Go here for quiet, intimate evenings with someone special, definitely a romantic spot! Reminds me exactly of Hunter's Den in Delaware.

Great service, fine menu of steaks, fish, chicken & pasta all at reasonable prices and in a delightfully cozy environment. I'd say this is a great place to take a family member or a date. They have a really great Pinot by the glass for only $6.50, which is a treat for this CA girl, being used to a $10-15 range. My MomMom pretty much sticks strictly to the shrimp scampi every time and is never disappointed. I enjoyed the special of the day, which was shrimp, scampi and crab in a cheesy au gratin casserole sort of concoction. I found it a bit on the fishy side, but still enjoyable. Two pages of appetizers with standbys like wings, potato skins & calamari but also house specials like bacon wrapped shrimp and coconut beer battered shrimp. On further pondering I think the seafood isn't the best avenue, but there's nothing bad about that. The service is very attentive and friendly, even casual, which is what makes the evening more personalized.

I want to go to theGaslight! I haven't been to Ridley Park in many years, but I lived there when I was young. I went to school with the owner. I guess he is still owner today. That would be Dave, a neighbor that graduated from Ridley Park High School. It was a very small School. Gone are Mr Wunch, Mr Binning, Mr More, Mrs Lippmen, Mrs Fleig, Sig Bassoe, Coach Wilson, Coach Winfree, Mr Iannchelli, Mr Boyd, Mrs Shaw and Mr Jones. Our famous undefeated football team, field hockey , cross country runners as well as other "Parkers." When the school closed due to the consolidation of small schools, it was demolished. Dave had the foresight to use the original pictures, trophies , pennants, awards, desks , and other memorabilia. The Gaslight was ....and is ... his original concept and effort. To many ( graduates of RPHS ) the Gaslight has become an outward and visible sign of our lives 50 years ago. Yes, it is small, "cozy" and "rustic". Parking remains where and as it was so many years ago. The little town, Ridley Park, remains a constant surrounded by big, "progressive", bustling , commercial Metropolitan Philadelphia. "Hail Ridley Park High School, pride of our youth" Hang in there Ridley Park! I salute you!

One of the best family owned restaurants on the east coast. Every time I'm in the Philadelphia area I make it to Ridley park Thanks for the meal

So good!!

set in a heritage period ... and appears to straddle to building with a common atrium ... dark wood and quiet ambiance ... from the top .... key lime martini w/o whip cream is a great starter ... Service is consistent and friendly ... long time members of the community dinners are full figured and set for a hearty appetite ... Ribeye and seafood fettuccine were favorites ....
